As the hard-hitting Gennady Golovkin prepares to defend his middleweight titles against Marco Antonio Rubio Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, bigger fights loom on the horizon for the undefeated Kazakhstan native.

Golovkin is a heavy favorite in the fight that will be televised on HBO, and with the exciting nature that he fights, the bout is being billed as “Mexican Style,” which has boxing fans eager for Saturday night to roll around, made evident by the StubHub Center selling out.

Golovkin wants a big pay-per-view showdown should he leave the rind victorious this weekend, and named some heavy hitters as possible foes.

Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. are the three fighters that have caught GGG’s attention and any one of those fights would be huge.

A bout with Chavez Jr. was supposed to happen this summer, but monetary issue’s reportedly had Chavez Jr. pull out of the talks, leading to fan speculation that the Mexican star was ducking Golovkin.

There are rumors of a Cotto-Canelo May 2 showdown swirling around and if that is that case, a dream scenario presents itself.

Pitting the winners of a Golvkin-Chavez Jr. bout against the winner of the proposed Cotto-Canelo bout in mid-to-late 2015 would make for quite a sequence of bouts for fans.

For that to take place a lot has to fall into place and in the world of boxing promoting the slightest disagreement can send a bout that appears to be ready to take place into the, “What If” category, never seeing the light of day.

For the good of the sport we all should cross our fingers and hope that a situation similar to the one above goes down throughout next year.
