When a person of interest is reluctant to say something that the masses want to hear, usually a family member, especially a parent, is a solid source as any.

In the case of Floyd Mayweather Sr. stating that his son, pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr., will undoubtedly face Manny Pacquiao before his career is over the source isn’t so reliable.

Mayweather Sr. told FightHype.com: “Man, I’m pretty sure that if don’t nothing else happen, I’m pretty sure he’s gonna get Pacquiao…it’s gonna happen,” Mayweather Sr. said. “That fight’s gonna happen. Trust me. That fight’s definitely gonna happen. It’s a fight for the world, man, right there. It’s the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said man, that fight’s gonna happen.”

Sure, Mayweather Sr. is the father and trainer of Mayweather Jr., but he is also the man that didn’t know that strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, was working with Money May leading up to his rematch with Marcos Maidana in September.

Since then a two-year deal was reached between Mayweather Jr. and Ariza, making Mayweather Sr.’s lack of knowledge of the pairing all the more strange.

So the fact that Mayweather Sr. a man who has been known to speak his mind, albeit not always making sense is the one that everyone wants to put their trust that the megafight the world has been waiting to see, then don’t hold your breath.

With Mayweather Sr.’s comments, a lot of fans are now expecting Mayweather’s proposed May 2, 2015, fight date to be the big Pacquiao fight we’ve all been waiting years to take place. With all the variables that need to be addressed, especially the HBO/Showtime one, it is all but guaranteed that the fight won’t take place in May 2015, or September 2015 for that matter.

The time that serves as the best chance to actually see the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout come to fruition is the tentative May 2016 opening of the new MGM/AEG Arena located just across the Strip from the MGM Grand, the spot that is viewed as Mayweather’s second home in Sin City.

This all depends on Mayweather and Pacquiao both being successful in the ring until that point and that is not a sure thing by any means.

As we have seen in the past, even with one or the other fighter’s camp claiming the fight is on the cusp of being signed, no fight has ever taken place.

It is safe to say until both fighters have signed a contract binding them to a fight, don’t believe anything you read or hear, even if it’s the family member/trainer of one of the fighters.
