Mayweather vs. Pacquiao public tickets to go on sale Thursday

After waiting and waiting and waiting, the public tickets for the May 2 Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao super-fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas go on sale Thursday, April 23.

The tickets will be released for sale at 3 p.m. EDT/12 p.m. PDT on Mgmgrand.com, Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000.

Yahoo Sport’s Kevin Iole was tracking the situation closely all day Wednesday and sent out a series of tweets announcing the good news.

The tickets available for purchase run $7,500, $5,000, $3,500, $2,500 and $1,500. With only about 500 tickets being made available for the public to snatch up.

Also available Thursday are the closed circuit tickets that will be hosted by MGM Resort Properties including: the MGM, The Signature (at MGM), Mandalay Bay, Delano (at the Mandalay Bay), Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Luxor, Excalibur, Bellagio, Vdara, Aria, Mirage, and Circus Circus in Las Vegas.

You can buy tickets for the closed circuit showings, which will run you $150 plus tax and fees, at each hotels box office or by calling either 866-799-7711 or 800-745-3000.

According to Iole’s story on Yahoo, there were be around 35,000 and 50,000 closed circuit seats available in Las Vegas.

Those receiving media credentials to the fight are also scheduled to be notified Thursday,according to the confirmation email sent out by Magna Media after applying for media access.

Now that the wait for the tickets to be over everyone can rest easy knowing that the bout is going to happen.

With a little over a week left until the long-awaited bout, the full madness should kick in, especially once Monday rolls around, kicking off fight week.

On Friday a Mayweather-Pacquiao pop-up shop will open up at Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. The shop will offer fight merchandise, an interactive punching game and meet-and-greets as well. The shop will remain open through fight night May 2.

Get those trigger fingers ready to call or click through the web to try and get some of the small amount of tickets made available to the public.

To all trying, good luck. The tickets should sell out in a minute or so, making the most sought after ticket in recent memory a fantasy for even those ready to fork over the large sums of cash the tickets are running.
