Yesterday in Los Angeles was the announcement of the next bout for triple G, Gennady Golovkin. Triple G by many accounts was touted as the “2013 fighter of the year,” and the Kazakh KO killer is looking for his 15th straight KO. His bout will not be in the US but rather back in Monte Carlo against the unheard of Osumanu Adama. Though at this time the fight will not be broadcast on HBO, they are working with Golovkin’s promoters to do so for us back in the states.
The opponent may come as a surprise to many of us and in truth could be seen as a step back after the tremendous year Golovkin had in 2013. Many of you are probably screaming, “Why is he fighting this guy? He should be fighting a Martinez or another champion!” We hear you on that, but while a promoter cold war still brews and with Martinez locked in to face Miguel Cotto it leaves very limited options for Golovkin. It is a shame but it is what it is. The only thing for him to do is to stay bust and stay sharp and thus why he is fighting in Feb.
