Chavez Jr. Punishes Lyell

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KOs) continued his undefeated streak as he scored a dominant ten round unanimous decision over Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KOs) on Saturday night in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. The 12,000 plus on hand cheered for the son of the Mexican legend as Chavez was just a bit better that his opponent. Lyell got his licks in as well as he battled back as much as he could. Chavez Jr. though, was on a different level and easily dished out more damage on his part. The official scores on the judges scorecards were 99-92, 96-94, 98-92. With the win Chavez Jr. will now face Sebastian Zbik for the WBC middleweight title.

On the under card super welterweight Saul Roman (34-8, 29 KOs) battled back from a second round knockdown to stop Michael Medina in that same round with a flurry of punches. The referee had no choice but to halt the bout with 1:53 left in the second.

In other fights, WBC interim female super bantamweight champion Jackie Nava (23-3-2, 11 KOs) defended her belt scoring a ten round unanimous decision over Frede Gonzalez (6-7-1, 2 KOs). The official scores were 99-91, 99-91 and 100-90.
