Chavez Jr. talks upcoming Alfonso Gomez fight, sparring Manny Pacquiao, Cotto and elite middleweights

This past Monday the 4th, Top Rank in association with Zanfer Promotions held a joint press conference announcing the December 4th fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Alfonso Gomez. The son of Mexico’s most popular boxer has had his fair share of criticism, from being called flat out boring to being accused of cherry picking his opponents. Chavez, who had his most impressive win to date over John Duddy enlisted the help of hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach and according to him it has paid dividends. He hopes to continue improving with a win over Gomez at the Honda Center come December.

Alfonso Gomez, who is known for his participation in the contender series has been riding a momentum streak as of late with wins over Jose Luis Castillo and Jesus Karass-Soto. Many see Gomez as a cherry picked opponent, but at the Press Conference Gomez made it clear that he will knock out the son of his idle. Gomez, who is also a musician made a short rhyme in Spanish to present to Chavez Jr. whom got a laugh from everyone in attendance.

As always our fight correspondent, Marcos was on hand as he had a chance to speak with Chavez Jr. one on one. The rising Mexican star spoke on Gomez, sparring with Manny Pacquiao, why the Cotto fight did not happen and what he thinks about Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez.
