Alexander Gustafsson embraces the loss: “To take the belt from the champ you have to finish him.”

Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson really impressed me last night. In fact, this was the most impressive I’ve ever seen Gustafsson, in my opinion. Just look at that picture above. These dudes laid it all out in one of the most epic battles in a long, long time, and they deserve all of the props in the world.

Gustaffson has been gracious in defeat, and he had this to say post UFC 165.

“I learned a lot from this fight, he’s the champ. To take the belt from the champ you have to finish him. The biggest lesson is I have to push the pace harder. I just did what I thought I could do and it wasn’t enough. I will come back stronger and better. I’m disappointed, but I’m very proud of what I did and my team.”

“I want a rematch right away. But it’s up to the UFC. It’s an honor to fight Jon.”

I’m fine with a rematch too, but I would love to see Jones fight Teixeira now.
